Client Letter re: COVID-19
To all of the clients, center directors, teachers, house managers, and families that we serve, please see the below letter regarding music therapy and COVID-19:
Hello from all of us at All Together Sing!
I wanted to reach out to all of our clients regarding the presence of COVID-19 in our region. As music therapists, we understand that some of our clients may fall into the category of people at higher risk to have serious health problems or even fatalities if exposed to COVID-19. I want to reassure our clients and the organizations we work with that we are taking extra precautions while COVID-19 is present in our region. Many of the below procedures are things we already do, however we are taking additional precautions as well.
1. We will wash our hands (preferred) or use hand sanitizer (if soap/water is not available) when enter the facility/home, before working with clients. If traveling from room-to-room or group-to-group within a facility, we will wash our hands or use hand sanitizer before working with the next group.
2. We will wash or wipe down our musical instruments, props, etc. If we are working with infants, toddlers, or other clients that might put instruments in their mouths, (or put their hands in their mouths, and then hold the instruments with their hands) we will only use instruments at this time with non-porous surfaces and wipe them down immediately. We will limit instruments and props at this time that are more difficult to clean. We will also sanitize specific things we might frequently touch before and in-between sessions, like car keys, cell phones, guitar cases, etc.
3. We will be creative with how we reach our clients' music therapy goals. For example, when working on social skills, rather than structure musical activities around shaking hands, passing instruments, and giving high fives, we might encourage verbal greetings, sharing ideas/compliments, waves, smiles, and individual instrument play.
4. We will monitor our personal health closely. If we have any sign of a fever or feel sick, we will cancel our sessions.
We take the health and well-being of our clients very seriously. While we will be taking an abundance of caution, we also know that some schools and agencies might temporarily close. Please make sure you contact your music therapist directly if your facility is closing, or if you need to cancel sessions. As always, feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
All the best,
Linda
